Recently, I was challenged by an Article Marketing friend to write for one dedicated hour each day, like Article Marketing kind of writing. I took the challenge with a smirk on my face, thinking, I do that all the time. And I really do...
But this morning, when I sat down to write I set the timer for one hour, and pulled up a nice new white screen on my computer.
The phone rang.

I stopped the timer, and answered the phone. While I was on the phone, my instant messenger warned me I had an email from a client, so I opened that. Of course, after the phone call, I needed to answer the email. I answered another phone call, and turned the timer back on to get back to writing.
The phone rang.
This same process happened eleven more times and almost three and a half hours after I started out to write for an hour (uninterrupted) I clicked on the voice mail, pulled the curtain over the door window, and turned off my messenger, so I could actually write for the balance of my one hour of uninterrupted writing time: 42.5 minutes.

I'm a work at home mom, and I home school, so the next interruptions came from within. My kids demanded my attention (as most kids do), and I shut off the timer for another thirty minutes. I solved their problem, can't imagine why they ran out of ink on their printer this week$%: And moved directly back to my goal of writing for one hour, with a new balance: 38 minutes and Paul Harvey on the radio.
Paul Harvey's comments on the Bose Radio Guarantee struck me as interesting and my topic went from marketing to sales, and I was back to a clear white piece of paper, and nothing accomplished.

Somebody mentioned lunch time, and my tummy growled. So, I knew it was time for a noon break. I ordered in a pizza (who has time to cook), and took fifteen minutes (while I waited for the pizza) to restructure my day, and take back my time.
If anyone asks you what it takes to spend one hour of uninterrupted time writing Articles for your Article Marketing plan every week, you might want to be specific when you answer. On a Monday in the middle of March, spending one whole hour on any given topic just doesn't appear to be a happening thing.
The real hoot, after almost six hours of striving to get an hour of writing in, my friend Heidi called to see how I was doing and we shared some serious laughter about time management issues, having children, and working from home. You can visit Heidi at . The clincher - article marketing really does work, if you do it.
Pssst! This article took a total of 9 minutes not counting interruptions, disconnects, and illusive moments of chasing my phone or tail - whichever needed attention.
